Mark Dahl is a writer, art director, production designer, and director whose work spans live theater, film, and television development. For roughly seventeen years, he has served as writer and director of the Miss’d America Pageant, a beloved annual drag production staged in Atlantic City, where he’s led everything from script and staging to content design.
His screen credits include work as a writer, production designer, art director, and actor, with projects like “Wee Willie Winkie,” “Jonny’s Sweet Revenge,” “Zero Road,” and “The Great Alaskan Race.” He's Produciton designed 8 shows for television. He’s currently developing “Art of War” a historical drama pilot set in 1941 in New York City, inspired by queer soldiers — a project grounded in years of research into an overlooked corner of history.
Across all his work, Mark is drawn to stories and spectacles that blend camp, craft, and heart, whether he’s directing a pageant number or building a world from scratch.
Memorable transformations
One of the most memorable challenges of Mark’s career was transforming The Chateau Marmont's Los Angeles garage into a full-scale nightclub for Beyoncé and Jay Z’s Oscars Gold party, with every trace of its true function hidden so guests would never guess where they actually were. It’s the kind of project that captures what he loves most: turning an ordinary space into a completely different world through design and illusion.
